We are excited to be hosting Citizens Defense Research and their 2-Day “Contextual Handgun: The Armed Parent/Guardian” class in Grand Rapids. Context in training is always important and this course should give all who are responsible for another’s safety valuable information for surviving a bad day with loved ones present.

Contextual Handgun: The Armed Parent/Guardian

Class Cost: $450 + $50 Range Fee
2-Day Class

A fast-paced course designed around the thought, “What if my children are with me when I get into a shooting?” Contextual Handgun: The Armed Parent/Guardian discusses with students the hard/soft skills necessary to solve the commonly observed shooting problems associated with fighting with our children present. Are some of the most commonly held best practices for if we are attacked when we are alone actually going to put our loved ones at risk when they are present?

Students will be shown WHY the context we find ourselves in as a parent can change our tactics. This skill-intensive two-day course covers application of practical handgun skills in a family environment. Topics include, but are not limited to; types of attacks, avoidance skills, handgun terminal ballistics and the importance of accuracy, one-handed access/shooting skills, shooting past/around no-shoots, clearing family members from lines of fire, best practices for dealing with a close-range assault while loading/unloading children from the vehicle, malfunction clearances and more with the end result being students better capable of delivering fast, accurate, fight-ending fire on demand.

Day 1 / Block I Seminar: The Armed Parent/Guardian

Those who arm themselves with knowledge, never find themselves unarmed.

The Armed Parent/Guardian Seminar is a 4-hour block of instruction that is designed to help give you answers to the question “What happens if I am targeted for violence while my children are present, and what are some strategies I can employ to mitigate my risk?” Topics include the importance of context when considering this problem. Video examples of the types of attacks that are typically perpetrated against both adults, and children.

Day 1 / Block II Contextual Handgun: Fundamental Concealed Pistol Skills

This four-hour block of instruction immediately following the Seminar that is focused entirely on access to a handgun in a holster; a quick, efficient and safe draw from the holster; malfunction clearing; ammo management; as well as accuracy at distances ranging from 3 to 25 yards. This block is specifically designed to push individuals boundaries of accuracy and efficiency and produce skilled, efficient shooters and is good for anyone (parent or not) who wants to challenge their individual skill level.

Day 2 / Block III Contextual Handgun: Tactics & Techniques for the Armed Parent

Day two adds another 8 hours of instruction, including a ballistic demonstration, combat anatomy lecture, as well as techniques in controlling individuals, under our care during a violent encounter, ranging in age from a baby in arms to non-combative adult.
